Genre: Dark Romance, Suspense, Erotic Short
Stars: 4

Synopsis:

*Book Two in the Gypsy Brothers series. A serial novella of approximately 27,000 words.

Intended for mature audiences*

I have lied.

I have cheated.

I have given my body and my life to the man who destroyed my family and left me for dead.

I have killed, I have sinned, and worst of all, I have enjoyed the misery of others.

I have licked the salty tears of a father mourning his firstborn son, and nothing has ever tasted so sweet.

I have died, and I have been resurrected, a phoenix from the ashes.

I know I’m going to hell. I’ll burn in the fiery pits alongside Dornan and his sons for the things I’ve done, and for the things I’m about to do.

But I don’t care. It will be worth every lick of the devil’s flames on my guilty flesh to destroy Dornan Ross.

Review:

Whoa! Dark and Twisty for real! wow. My eyes seriously bulged and i forgot to breathe towards the end. I cannot reiterate that the author was NOT kidding when she said that this was a dark Romance! i originally picked up the first book of the series because I loved the Blood and Roses series….I feel that this series is DARKER.

This girl at this point has no soul and doesn’t realize it. If she does have anything left in her I will be utterly surprised and when she is done accomplishing her mission she will be devastated. While on one hand I am impressed by the stone cold balls this broad has I at the same time simply cannot wrap my brain around how things are playing out.

Is Jase going to figure it all out? Is Dornan going to kill Sammi? Will Juliette be able to recover from this at all? What about Elliott? How is he going to take things when she finally tells him what landed her in danger again!? I am eating this story up one quick little novella at a time. I’m almost kind of glad that I can get this in snippets vs a whole book at one time!

Review: The Invasion of the Tearling

Invasion-of-the-Tearling

Links: GoodReadsAmazon
Genre: Young adult, Dystopia, Science Fiction Fantasy
Pages: 515 pages

Synopsis:
In this riveting sequel to the national bestseller The Queen of the Tearling, the evil kingdom of Mortmesne invades the Tearling, with dire consequences for Kelsea and her realm.

With each passing day, Kelsea Glynn is growing into her new responsibilities as Queen of the Tearling. By stopping the shipments of slaves to the neighboring kingdom of Mortmesne, she crossed the Red Queen, a brutal ruler whose power derives from dark magic, who is sending her fearsome army into the Tearling to take what is hers. And nothing can stop the invasion.

But as the Mort army draws ever closer, Kelsea develops a mysterious connection to a time before the Crossing, and she finds herself relying on a strange and possibly dangerous ally: a woman named Lily, fighting for her life in a world where being female can feel like a crime. The fate of the Tearling —and that of Kelsea’s own soul—may rest with Lily and her story, but Kelsea may not have enough time to find out.

In this dazzling sequel, Erika Johansen brings back favorite characters, including the Mace and the Red Queen, and introduces unforgettable new players, adding exciting layers to her multidimensional tale of magic, mystery, and a fierce young heroine.

Review:

I am not sure what happened here. Maybe it was a combination of simply waiting so long for the next book that i just expected mind-blowing amazingness and sheer genius. I was a little disappointed with this book BUT i will say that once i was done throwing my temper tantrum from lack of awesomeness the story itself started to sink in and grow hooks.

This is one of those stories that shifts back and forth between present and the past. We learn SO MUCH in this installment. It makes sense that it was so information laden vs story rich. No doubt in my mind that the next book will be as mind blowing as i had hoped this one to be because the last book HAS to bridge that gap between past present and future.

In this one we learn:
– how much Kelsea’s powers have grown.
– who the red queen is
– The mace’s back story
– VITAL information about the Fetch’s past
– I start seeing Kelsea’s power struggle within herself
– about pre crossing times
– about Jonathan Tear and his vision
– more about the magical necklaces
– MOSTLY every question I had in the first book (and chose to overlook) was answered!
– enter more delicious bad guys that also include snippets from the past

SURPRISE! This book NEEDED the flip flopping, which i don’t particularly like usually. I actually recall putting this down and wondering how i was ever going to finish it since it felt like the storyline couldn’t stay focused. I pretty much grumbled and complained about Lily and her story for about 3/4 of the book and was convinced the whole book was going to suck ass….and then i finished it and it was ALMOST perfect. *sighs* -Insert Romantic frustrated Sigh Here-

I found myself running through a gamut of emotions with this novel it wasn’t ONLY suspenseful but it was rather emotional and lovely on top of all the intrigue, mystery, deceit and evil.

Review

Hmmm So I don’t know where to start with this one. I liked it. I just didn’t LOVE it the way I loved Piper and Kades story. Don’t get me wrong I love Pixie. I love her style and her class. Just the way she holds herself comes off as regal BUT I just felt like she had potential for a MUCH MUCH longer story. I get it I signed on for Novellas and while I was prepared for the short amount of time it would take for me to read this book I found that Pixie became more and more interesting as the story went on. Ash, her bff, also made for a very interesting story and one that I hope the author pursues. I feel like there was so much that was crammed into this short story that I very well could have filled up on a much longer story about these two. Her background, or the little that we get to see, is chock full of horrifying sounding details that could make a great story. As for Jake he didn’t particularly tickle my cookie with his over possessive machoness but im a pretty insensitive asshole (or so my mother says). Overall I did truly like this book I just felt like there were chapters and chapters missing. Content wise? It was a sweet and relaxing read that I could very easily recommend to someone who just needs to read something lighter than their usual.
