A stand alone book based on the bestselling Growing Pains Series. You do not need to have read the series to embark on this read.
Cassie thought she had it all—a great brother, a new soon to be sister-in-law, and a bunch of great friends. With her chosen family growing, and her life in L.A. going great, she never thought she’d ask for anything more. But when she sees the way her brother and his soon-to-be wife look at each other, Cassie realizes she’s missing something.
Unfortunately, her problems will have to wait. When Cassie is asked by her good friend, Peter, to be his date for a family reunion in order to keep a secret that could tear the family apart, she can’t say no. And then a hard situation gets worse when she meets Peter’s brother. Tall and brooding with a sleeve of tattoos and a Harley, he’s a bad boy with an irresistible smile. One look has the power to melt her heart.
Jace has sworn away women. After he caught his fiancé in bed with his best friend, he can’t imagine ever trusting again. Then he meets Cassie. Chaotic but so full of life, she has his head spinning. But his resolve to stay away from the opposite sex, not to mention his brother’s girlfriend, forces him to keep his distance.
As they battle to avoid each other, they can’t help but constantly get sucked closer. Soon Cassie is struggling with her loyalty to keep Peter’s secret, and trying not to succumb to that irresistible smile.
I received an ARC from KF Breene and I was so happy that I did, If you are looking for a Romance (NOT erotica) novel that is NOT part of some long series this is it! This was so good to me that it made me want to start the Growing Pains series and learn all of the characters stories. You did NOT need to read the series to enjoy this book though.
I loved that this brought up some real issues – being yourself in the face of rejection, having your past hold you back from your future, family strife and unity, overcoming insecurities and fear, coming out to the people closest to you, and trusting yourself. This hit home and made me laugh and sigh.
I love Jace and Cassie. Cassie’s friends made me want friends like them and Jace’s family almost had me picking up the phone to call my own family just to chat. Cassie faces some real struggle when she poses as Peter’s girlfriend and end up meeting and being attracted to Peter’s brother, Jason. Peter still hasn’t come out and doesn’t really want to because his father is so straight laced. You get to see family alliances and unconditional love from Peter’s family and you get to see Cassie blossom under such a large family. All of these characters in some shape way or form over come and achieve something.
K.F. Breene really makes the characters relatable and funny. She engages you to love these people and want to know more about them. This was a fantastic read and I am thrilled that I was given the chance to read it. If you haven’t already DEFINITELY READ THIS BOOK!
